Little Angels School Presents Jules Verne's Play 'Around the World in Eighty Days'

On 23rd August 2025, the Junior School students of Little Angels School, Sonipat, gave a spectacular performance of Jules Verne's classic, 'Around the World in Eighty Days'. The play was part of the school’s annual ‘Literature Day’ celebrations, a tradition aimed at encouraging students to engage with theatre and literature.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including social worker Dr. Kamlesh Malik, retired professor Shri C.D. Girdhar, and paediatrician Dr Atul Girdhar. The School's leadership, including Principal; Ms. Asha Goyal, Vice Principal; Ms. Geeta Arora, and Headmistress; Ms. Bharti Dutta were also present along with educationists, principals, and teachers from various schools across the Sonipat district.

The programme began with the traditional lighting of lamp, followed by Principal; Ms. Asha Goyal welcoming the guests with saplings. Vice Principal; Ms. Geeta Arora formally welcomed the guest and introduced the play, describing it as one of Jules Verne's finest works.

The production brought to life the adventurous journey of Mr Phileas Fogg, who sets out to circumnavigate the globe in just eighty days. The audience followed his travels from London through France, Italy, and Egypt to India, where he rescues the Indian princess, Aouda, from the practice of Sati. Throughout the journey, he is accompanied by his loyal valet, Passepartout, and pursued by the cunning detective, Mr. Fix. The play vividly portrayed the challenges they faced, including an encounter with the Sue tribe from which they narrowly escaped. The journey continued through Hong Kong, Japan and the United States before their return to London.

The young performers captivated the audience with a variety of breathtaking acts, including a dream sequence, Japanese dance, and a captivating Sue tribe dance. Their performances were enhanced by live music played on the guitar, violin, octopad, and synthesizer. The stage was brought to life with vibrant hip-hop, contemporary, and ballroom dance forms. The students’ attention to detail was evident in the elaborate stage decorations, which included recreations of Indian temples and a police station.

The narrators held the audience’s attention with their charming delivery. Guests and spectators alike praised the students for their commitment and teamwork, which were evident in the play's focus on punctuality, planning, and perseverance. The colourful costumes and impressive set design added to the magical atmosphere.

The School Chairman; Shri Tarsem Kumar Garg, Secretary; Dr. Vishal Garg, and Principal; Ms. Asha Goyal praised the students and staff for their hard work, noting that such events are crucial for a child’s holistic development, fostering language skills, acting ability, cooperation, and dedication. They congratulated all the teachers for the programme's success. The event concluded with Headmistress; Ms. Bharti Dutta extending a vote of thanks to all the attendees, followed by light refreshments.
